VIT 160 – Spray Rating Tester for Water Repellency Testing

[product_tags_no_comma_alt]

Application

The Spray Rating Tester is designed to evaluate the water repellency or resistance of fabrics by simulating the exposure to water spray. This testing method helps to assess how fabrics perform under real-life conditions, such as when they are exposed to rain or moisture. Commonly used for evaluating waterproof fabrics, outerwear materials, and textile coatings, the tester provides precise ratings for water penetration resistance based on specific spray conditions.

Testing Method

Test Method
The test procedure is carried out following the AATCC 22 standard for spray rating. The fabric test piece, typically measuring 18cm x 18cm, undergoes a humidification treatment for at least 4 hours under controlled conditions of 21±1°C temperature and 65±2% relative humidity.

After treatment, the test piece is clamped at a 45° angle on the tester’s holder. A constant water spray is applied by pouring 50ml of water into the funnel, ensuring consistent drenching. The spray continues until all water is used, and the fabric is evaluated for its water repellency rating based on the wetting coverage.

Spray Rating Grades

  • Grade 1: The entire surface is wet.
  • Grade 2: Half of the surface is wet, often consisting of small, disconnected wet areas.
  • Grade 3: Only small, disconnected wet areas are visible on the surface.
  • Grade 4: Water droplets appear on the surface, but the fabric itself is not wet.
  • Grade 5: No wetting or water droplets observed.

Test Results
The test results should include the following details:

  • A visual representation of the test procedure following the standard guidelines.
  • Atmospheric conditions during the test.
  • Water temperature used during the test.
  • The spray rating for each test piece.
  • The experimental date for reference.

Specification

  • Nozzle: 19 holes, each with a diameter of 0.9mm.
  • Angle of Holder: 45° to the horizontal.
