The VMT 223 ICI Pilling and Snagging Tester is designed to quickly replicate fabric pilling and snagging, simulating wear and tear in a fraction of the time compared to normal usage. Equipped with a universal drive system, it features 2 or 4 testing positions, an electronic digital counter, and a sample mounting fixture. The machine is compatible with ICI pilling boxes and ICI pilling drums, providing a comprehensive solution for fabric durability testing.

Testing Method
Understanding Fabric Pilling
Fabric pilling occurs when fibers loosen from the yarn due to repeated friction and washing, forming unsightly fuzz and pills on the fabric’s surface. This not only affects appearance but also reduces fabric performance and durability. The VMT 223 ICI Pilling and Snagging Tester helps manufacturers assess and mitigate these effects by providing precise and repeatable test results.
Pilling and Snagging Test Procedure
- Mount the fabric specimen onto a polyurethane tube.
- Clean the machine’s empty boxes using light brushing, vacuuming, or compressed air, and inspect the cork linings for wear or damage.
- Place the specimens into the cork-lined boxes, ensuring all lids are securely closed and locked.
- Power on the machine and navigate to the test page via the touch panel.
- Press the “START” button to begin the test; the counter will track the number of revolutions.
- Once the preset number of revolutions is reached, the machine will stop automatically. Ensure the machine is fully stopped before removing the specimens.
- Clean the machine after use and reset the revolution counter for the next test.
